Whose 0 Will Go?

Floyd Mayweather Vs Conor McGregor

So the BS world tour of the money fight, sorry I mean the Mayweather vs McGregor contest is finally over. It appeared that if you saw the first event, then you saw all of them. What made me laugh was the fact that they both shared a private jet to London; at least they're thinking about the environment I suppose. But during the journey they could've put their heads together to write more or different material for their script.

Any boxing fan knows that McGregor has a slim chance of winning this match against arguably the best boxer of the last two decades, plus we all know that McGregor would wipe the floor with him inside the Octagon.

As I believe Mayweather should win this fight blindfolded with one arm tied behind his back, I can't help thinking that this is a bad fight for him. Why? He's in a no-win situation. Mayweather is 49-0 as a pro and McGregor is 0-0, which should equal a mismatch.

So say Mayweather blows away McGregor within three rounds; everyone will say "so what, that's what we expected!" If the UFC man goes a few rounds people will say "maybe Mayweather isn't as good as we thought." If the fight goes the full 12 rounds "well he couldn't KO a guy making his pro debut" and if McGregor were to win then that's Mayweather's legacy out the window and maybe the death of boxing.

So it appears that the motivation behind this match-up is money, as Mayweather owes a lot to the IRS, but is he using McGregor as a tune-up for the winner of September's middleweight title clash of Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez?

For me, the real question is what does McGregor bring to this fight? I think he can bring a lot. For starters, he's a southpaw. Not many orthodox boxers like taking on the awkward lefties. McGregor has real power and he knows how to rough up an opponent. If he can drag Mayweather into a dog fight then his chances of winning become more than slim.

He has youth on his side, plus Mayweather hasn't fought since September 2015 when he outpointed Andre Berto. Will the two-year hiatus have a positive or negative effect on him? How will he react to being hit in anger for the first time since his last fight?

I'm not saying Mayweather is unfit at 40, far from it; but in England when a footballer comes back from injury he may be fit, but he's not match-fit. Is Mayweather match-fit for this? Is he mentally prepared to trade blows if he has to? These are all serious questions that might need to be answered come fight night.

I believe Mayweather will win easily and not take much punishment as McGregor is a great fighter in the Octagon, he's a complete novice in the boxing ring. I only hope that it gives value for money for the Americans shelling out $99 and us Brits who are being ripped off by Sky, who as I read yesterday are looking to charge £129.99 (I hope that's not true). I for one won't be paying for it though!

All the best fight fans
