Julio Cesar Chavez

Early Life & Career Born on 12th July 1962, Chavez was one of ten children. He claimed that "I started fighting before I was one minute old." On 05th February 1980, aged 17 he made his professional debut against Andres Felix winning by a sixth-round knockout. There are sources that suggest Chavez actually lost an early fight due to a disqualification, but this hasn't been confirmed. As records stand he was 43-0 when he challenged fellow Mexican Mario Martinez for the vacant WBC super-featherweight crown on 13th September 1984. Explosive short hooks and body punches helped him on the way to an eighth-round victory. Over a period of three years, Chavez made nine successful defences including such names as Roger Mayweather, Francisco Tomas Da Cruz and Juan Laporte. He also had a few non-title fights against some obscure opponents like Roberto Collins Lindo who had a record of 1-15-0. On 21st November 1987 Chavez moved up to the lightweight division and cha...

If Eubank Won't Then Collins Will (Maybe)

Nigel Benn Vs Steve Collins III As I read a few weeks ago browsing the BBC Sports App I saw that Nigel Benn and Steve Collins had agreed to a rubber match scheduled for October/November 2017. They last fought back in November 1996, the same night Evander Holyfield overcame all the odds and took the WBA heavyweight title from Mike Tyson in Las Vegas. It looked like the epic battles he had throughout his career had caught up with him and his time in world-class boxing had faded. Collins not only beat the Dark Destroyer twice he also held back-to-back wins over Chris Eubank. The Celtic Warrior hoped, like Benn did after his 1995 encounter with Gerald McClellan, that a fight with the great Roy Jones Jnr would be made. Two title defences later and the Jones fight still didn't materialise...

Whose 0 Will Go?

Floyd Mayweather Vs Conor McGregor So the BS world tour of the money fight, sorry I mean the Mayweather vs McGregor contest is finally over. It appeared that if you saw the first event, then you saw all of them. What made me laugh was the fact that they both shared a private jet to London; at least they're thinking about the environment I suppose. But during the journey they could've put their heads together to write more or different material for their script. Any boxing fan knows that McGregor has a slim chance of winning this match against arguably the best boxer of the last two decades, plus we all know that McGregor would wipe the floor with him inside the Octagon. As I believe Mayweather should win this fight blindfolded with one arm tied behind his back, I can't help thinking that this is a bad fight for him. Why? He's in a no-win situation. Mayweather is 49-0 as a pro and McGregor is 0-0, which should equal a mismatch.  So say Mayweather ...
